What is RotaryArt.org?

RotaryArt is a program created by Rotarian Alex Bonesteel (Rotary Club of Whidbey-Westside). After hearing a speaker at at this year’s District 5050 Conference tell a story of how he began selling his paintings and donating the profits to the Rotary Foundation, Alex had the idea of creating a global exchange where people can donate art and buy art, and all profits raised would go back to Rotary.

He wanted to take what that one Rotarian had done, and give tens of thousands of other Rotarians the platform to do the same thing. As a web developer, devoted Rotarian, and an artist himself, Alex had all the skills necessary to create such a program.

When a piece of Art is donated, the artist donating the work decides where in Rotary the proceeds from selling their piece will go. Some elect for it all to go to the Rotary Foundation, some elect for it to be donated to Polio+, or to go back to their own Rotary Club. Most artists elect for the money to be divided between these options, although occasionally an artist will allow the purchaser to decide where in Rotary the proceeds go or that the money should go to a specific project. You can find the donation details for each piece of artwork on each individual artwork page.

The prices of artwork on this site include all shipping and supply costs, unless otherwise noted on the artwork page. Artists are usually reimbursed for their supply and shipping costs, but sometimes the artists elect to donate these costs as well. A complete breakdown of how much money will be given back to the artist for shipping and supplies is detailed on each artwork page.

RotaryArt.org is a Not For Profit (NFP) website, and all hosting, administrative, and website services are currently being donated by Alex Bonesteel.

Please read the FAQs on this page for more info, or send Alex an email at alex@rotaryart.org and he will answer all your questions.
